Kirn Pier opened in 1846 to serve the rapidly expanding village. The pier, located opposite the Queen’s Hotel and shops, had room for one paddle steamer and cost a penny per passenger to use.
The pier was extended further in 1905, the same year the Esplanade between Dunoon and Kirn was completed. A grand entrance, topped with distinct domes, earned the pier the nickname ‘the small Kremlin’. Sadly, the pier was closed in the 1960s and later demolished, with just the shore-side entry buildings left.
