Kirn Pier and Gardens

Kirn Pier opened in 1846 to serve the rapidly expanding village. The pier, located opposite the Queen’s Hotel and shops, had room for one paddle steamer and cost a penny per passenger to use.

The pier was extended further in 1905, the same year the Esplanade between Dunoon and Kirn was completed. A grand entrance, topped with distinct domes, earned the pier the nickname ‘the small Kremlin’. Sadly, the pier was closed in the 1960s and later demolished, with just the shore-side entry buildings left.

From Kirn to Westbay. Take a walk, cycle or promenade along this local heritage trail. A variety of views from the line shore taken from postcards.
