ABC No Rio is a collectively-run center for art and activism. It was founded in 1980 by artists committed to political and social engagement

The new building was built utilizing sustainable design principles: energy and water efficiency and conservation; use of local and recycled materials; use of less toxic (low VOC) materials; recycling of materials from our demolition; creation of a green roof; and use of both active and passive solar technologies.

Meets LEED silver criteria.

Status: under construction

"Passive House" is an important building standard that brings efficiency and comfort together.  New York City has a growing number of these new, state of the art buildings that save money and the climate. Also known as Passivehaus (this standard has German roots), several of the newest buildings came from this national database, Passive House Projects. This map is made by Green Map System's own local Green Map NYC project. We created our first Passive House Green Map in 2013, and in summer 2025, 50 buildings were added and/or updated by Simone Reckhaus, our intern from University of Bologna in Italy.
