The school's healthy environment committee has started a pilot project to promote values of solidarity, sustainability, inclusion and social responsibility. The students are planning on gradually developing the school yard by themselves to create safe spaces to resolve conflicts peacefully and make new friendships.
So far, two benches were built by the students using recycled materials: One is meant to offer a welcoming space for students who feel lonely and would like to be approached and the other is designated for students to share their food generously with others. The next step will be renovating a neglected area in the school grounds, planting bushes and flowers and using more recycled materials to build sitting areas with the students' families. This will be used as a community garden, developed and maintained by students and their families.
