Ibsar's Power of planting is tree planting in villages. This Activity serves as the driving force to conserve the country’s native tree species portfolio and encourage people towards becoming guardians of their natural heritage.
Statement of Purpose
AUB-Ibsar initiated the Power of Planting (POP) program in 2007 to serve as the driving force to conserve Lebanon's native tree species portfolio and encourage people towards becoming guardians of their natural heritage. The underlying philosophy of the program is that nature conservation is only possible when local citizen's interests are aligned with those of local public authorities in wanting to protect the diversity of nature and the natural systems which their livelihoods depend upon.
With respect to forest conservation, the Center believes that the health and resilience of forest and woodland ecosystems depend on local management practices (e.g. managing reserves and protected areas), along with an understanding of important ecological factors (i.e. biodiversity) when engaging in tree planting activities. Knowing which species to plant as well as appropriate ways in their planting are crucial for ensuring sustained and resilient ecosystems and successful planting outcomes.
