The school established gardens in the front yard in 2019 for classroom activities, fresh vegetables, and fruit production. The produce goes to  school lunches or local food banks.

It has a unique relationship with the FoodBankGrowers.org -- who supply volunteer help and administrative backup to the garden managers.

GARDENS

Production Garden: Neil Howe - nhowe@ptschools.org farms the production garden next door which grows fresh food for the Salish Coast kitchen run by Food Director, Shannon Gray  to prepare and then distribute to Salish Coast, Blue Heron, and PT High School students

  • On-site composting machine

CULINARY

Port Townsend Schools Food Director, Shannon Gray sgray@ptschools.org runs the Port Townsend Schools Farm to School program from this location. Her crew uses as much whole foods from their production garden and the gleaned fruit contributions as possible. She also brings in fresh food in from local farms.  She features a recipe from the garden that the students could also try at home.

The PT high school also has nutrition classes and culinary classes.

The school appreciates financial donations to help make this garden grow given directly to the school or through the FoodBankGrowers.org.
