Describe the history of the lighthouse
The lighthouse was built in 1869 by James Dove and Company of Edinburgh. It was fitted with a 4th order azimuthal condensing light made by Chance Brothers of Smethwick near Birmingham. However it's life was short lived and it was decommissioned in 1930. After requests from local residents Forth Ports PLC relit the light with colour changing LEDs in November 2018 though these are only aesthetic and not for navigational purposes.
