Describe the history of the lighthouse
The lighthouse is situated on the south western tip of the Illa de Cabrera which is an island to the south of Mallorca. Very little information is available but the original plan for a lighthouse with 15 rooms was rejected by the Spanish Government as being too excessive and luxurious for a mere lighthouse. In 1936 the lighthouse keepers were kidnapped and taken by submarine to Menorca. In 1962 it was abandoned before the instalment of more modern apparatus, refurbishment and painting into the present diamond pattern in 1967 before automation in 1971.
