The Meaning Map is a community project exploring the localised effects of climate breakdown and mapping its impact on Scottish communities. The project encourages communities to creatively map their relationship to local places - documenting the memories, associations, and emotions which can be found in significant spaces, and weaving them into a shared sense of ‘home’.
These ‘co-created Meaning Maps’ will be used to prompt dialogue on climate breakdown, encouraging communities to consider the threat posed to local places, and the meaningful relationships embedded there. In turn, the ‘Meaning Maps’ serve as an imaginative space, allowing communities to devise climate policies which are responsive to local concerns, and map out collective visions for a sustainable future.
Each ‘Meaning Map’ is at once an art object, a document, and a process, which allows past, present, and future to converge into an imaginative manifesto of collective responsibility.
