Rainbow House

Rainbow House is a drug rehabilitation unit operated by the Church of Scotland. There are 17 single rooms, some of which care for the needs of the disabled within areas for residents to live more independently. The aim of the service is to provide a safe, secure, drug and alcohol free environment, where the service user will have the opportunity to explore and identify what personal changes he/she will require, in themselves and their surroundings, to enable them to gain and maintain a substance free lifestyle. The building which now houses Rainbow was originally the Glasgow Institution for Orphan and Destitute Girls. This had fifty-three resident girls in 1904, rising to sixty-one in 1905. They attended the local school and received at least one year's training in the Home in every branch of housework, before they were found employment, usually in domestic service.
