Describe the history of the lighthouse
Erected by government employees in 1886 with kerosene wick burner in Chance Brothers 4th order fixed lens on cast iron pedestal. The tower has a pre-fabricated timber frame, sheeted with corrugated galvanised iron. The lantern was built in Queensland to a standard design.
The lightstation was automated and de-manned in 1974, and the keeper's house removed.
In 1988 the light was converted to solar-electric operation.
