This is the first preschool in New York that has a high-performance “Passive House” construction. The big windows in the building have three layers of glass and very tight gasketing so that very little air can leak in either direction.
Providing a very quiet environment for the children.

While the landmark brick and terra cotta facades were restored, the building’s interior and structure were replaced.

Status: Built

"Passive House" is an important building standard that brings efficiency and comfort together.  New York City has a growing number of these new, state of the art buildings that save money and the climate. Also known as Passivehaus (this standard has German roots), several of the newest buildings came from this national database, Passive House Projects. This map is made by Green Map System's own local Green Map NYC project. We created our first Passive House Green Map in 2013, and in summer 2025, 50 buildings were added and/or updated by Simone Reckhaus, our intern from University of Bologna in Italy.
