The Helensburgh Repair Hub is a great example of real-life
partnership working. It began just over a year ago from an initial conversation
between staff members of Helensburgh Community Hub, Jean's Bothy mental health
hub and ABCAN.
The Repair Hub is now a thriving monthly event with a fabulous
team of around a dozen regular volunteers who are building new friendships as
well as saving all sorts of items from landfill and helping to encourage a
culture of reuse and repair. Another benefit has been seeing the growing
community connection with visitors to the repair hub returning frequently.
We were invited to share our journey at the national Share
and Repair Network conference in Stirling in March, partly because our story of
a partnership approach to setting up a repair hub is unusual.
We think the key things that have helped the partnership
work so well are:

The positive and trusted personal relationships between the staff members of
the three organisations

The trusted relationships each organisation has with its own stakeholders and
audience

Access to a wider pool of skills, expertise and contacts that three organisations
bring over one
We are now expanding our reach from the centre of
Helensburgh into the wider area and will be holding Repair Hub sessions in Cove and Arrochar too.
