Nature-based solutions category: active travel route enhancement, urban tree planting
In May 2026 Angus Council officially marked the completion and opening of the landmark Arbroath A Place for Everyone project, a major regeneration initiative designed to reconnect the town centre, transport links, tourism destinations and coastline through improved walking, wheeling and cycling infrastructure. The project aligns closely with Angus Council and Scottish Government priorities, including tackling climate change, promoting health and wellbeing, improving accessibility, supporting tourism and strengthening town centre regeneration. Native plants and tree species have been incorporated into the project providing ahme for nature and supporting the cooling effect urban street trees and shade can provide.
