Nature-based solutions category: wetland restoration
Crombie Country Park in Angus is home to two long established British Dragonfly Society (BDS) "Hotspots" - Heron pond and Peddleston Pond. The ponds have suffered from vegetation expansion in recent years limiting open water and light. To help priority species remain resilient in the face of climate change the ponds needed to enhance to allow natural process to function properly. Peddleston Pond was cleared of reeds by hand, using many volunteers and silt removal allowed the gentle flow to the water course to the pond. Alongside supporting nature, footpath infrastructure is protected by the healthy functioning of the ponds.
