Fun First has been running accessible, baby and toddler sessions in Helensburgh for over 20 years.

With ABCAN seed funding support they have been offering a year-long programme of outdoor learning sessions for young families, focusing on environmental themes and connection with nature. Children have taken part in hands-on activities such as foraging, bug hunts, and creating with natural materials, helping build confidence, focus, and new skills, while encouraging care for wildlife.

Families benefit too, engaging in simple, practical climate learning and enjoying shared experiences. Parents and carers report valuing the opportunity to learn alongside their children and take ideas home.

The sessions have also strengthened social ties, with grandparents forming friendships and families spending more time together in the park.

“By offering welcoming, free-to-attend sessions, we have also been able to widen participation and ensure that families who may otherwise face barriers are included in local climate action, while strengthening community connections around caring for the environment”. Jenny, Fun First

ABCAN is supported through Scottish Government funding and overseen through a collaboration between ACT, Argyll & Bute Third Sector Interface and Time for Change Argyll & Bute. We’re part of a network of 24 Climate Hubs which collectively cover every region of Scotland. These hubs are rooted in their local place, run by local experts and connected to community organisations and cross-sector partners.
