Tweedgreen began 10 years ago and our aim is to raise awareness of ways in which we can respond positively to the climate crisis.

It is now a company limited by guarantee, has an email followers' list of almost 200 and a steering group of eight. We grew from a small group of committed volunteers to an effective campaigning organisation with, for two years, funding from the Climate Challenge Fund which allowed us to employ three staff members and develop important work on local food, home energy (with an annual energy fair and insulation workshops) and promoting car share and cycling. A memorable project was the 50:50 challenge (one of a series of sustainable lifestyle challenges) where people committed to the challenge of eating for the month of October only food grown within a radius of 50 miles (with two exceptions allowed!). We have run Carbon Conversations courses and collaborated with other eco-groups and with schools, Changeworks, Tweeddale Youth Action and Zero Waste Scotland on events and carbon-reducing projects.

Currently our main projects are encouraging people to move away from fossil fuels for home heating by promoting local woodfuel and eliminating one use plastics and promoting growing and gardening.
