Part of the GCC Park Ponds project.

GCC is working with greenspace scotland and others to look develop opportunities for nature-based surface water management to replace failing drainage networks in parks and open spaces to address surface water flooding and ‘slow the flow’ to the surface water network. The aim is to develop a costed portfolio of targeted projects across the city, and associated implementation plans and funding strategy to support delivery. Linked to this stakeholder and community engagement will aim to secure local support and input to proposals, identify target species for each project, and build commitment to the future management of new wetland habitats.

Project development activities to bring the projects to implementation include;

·       Review surface water flooding issues with Drainage Engineer and identify existing surface water connections from parks to combined sewer network.

·       Review wider park issues to understand wider aspirations.

·       Identify potential locations for, and type of, natural SuDS features to intercept surface water and ‘slow the flow’ to combined sewer.

·       Surveys and site investigations of potential locations to assess their feasibility.

·       Undertake stakeholders and community consultation.

·       Develop nature-based surface water management plan

·       Agree surface water management actions to be taken forward.

Develop SuDS design, drawings and technical specifications
